So I'm sitting in the ILC waiting for my last class of the day so I decided to blog. I've been meaning to talk about Smartphones and their millions of applications. Really, those things baffle me. In our generation, it's hard to get by without a cell phone. I remember when cell phones were used so that business people could be contacted when they weren't at home or in the office. And Blackberries were used by super busy people who needed to keep their lives in order because they were on the run all the time and couldn't carry a paper planner everywhere they went. Nowadays, you see teenagers with Blackberries and Smartphones. Uhm, what's with that? What really confuses me is when they say they NEED it and that their lives would fall apart without them. And it's then that I just want to retort back at them that people before us have managed it perfectly fine. But the fact is that everyone's just going at such a fast pace, they no longer have time to sit down and actually, say, reply to an email. It's all about instant gratification: texts are communication NOW. What I find hilarious is that people don't even really hangout together anymore. It's hilarious when you see people who are clearly out together but none of them are talking to each other because they're too busy using their phone to Tweet, or something. What one earth is that?????? Are the people you are with NOW less important that doing something in the virtual world?? If that's the way our society has come to, I'm afraid to see the future; it definitely looks bleak.

Do hybrid cars really help with the "green" issue? Admittedly, I don't know the exact workings of these cars and what happens, but I've begun to wonder the real effect that hybrid cars have on the environment. At first glance, I definitely agreed that it reduced one's personal carbon footprint; you use less gas which, in effect, reduces the amount of CO2 your car spews into the air. But if you're using electricty to charge your car, where is the electricity coming from? Some ridiculously large factory somewhere that does EXACTLY the same thing that you would do if you had a non-hybrid car? You've reduced the amount of gasoline you use, but charging your car surly isn't a small feat. I guess the BIG QUESTION is just how to reduce how much "manufactured" energy we use. Sure, the First Law of Thermodynamics is that there's never going to be a "lack" of energy, because we can't actually destroy energy, but the ways to manipulate it are getting harder and harder. Nuclear was good until we started making way too much waste we couldn't handle. Curse older generations for thinking "ah, well future generations can think of a way to deal with it, since we don't have the tech now." Thanks so much, the tech STILL isn't here and so we've got shit loads of crap we have no idea what to do with but BURY. Solar panels are just... fail. They're good AFTER they've already been made, but making them is a BITCH and mother earth does not fancy it much. Wind mills are just large and in your face. And that ethanol crap from corn is just the dumbest shit ever. But really, we keep finding new sources of transforming different forms of energy into something usable, but it's just an endless cycle, really. Nothing's ever going to be 100% efficient (yes sad isn't it, that we live in a world that's NOT a vacuum and where friction DOES exist), and we're constantly trying tofind ways to supply to the ever demanding public who only seem to care about getting the latest iPod or buying brand names to show off the fact that they CAN. Screw you, coporations. We should just all travel by transforming gravitational potential to kinetic. LOL. I think it would make my day, everyday xDDD This ends my random rant on the energy crisis. Props to Ali who got me started on this today. =)

I don't even remember where I heard about this organization, but I knew the moment I learned of its existence that it was something important. It's kind of sad that everyone I know, save one or two, has either never heard of To Write Love On Her Arms, or assumes it's only about self inflicted injury. What's worse is they tend to assume it's for "emo kids". I guess I also used to be one of these people who assumed that the "emo" kids were attention grabbers. I guess it's majorly because of the environment I grew up in. My parents were strict, but with reason. I'd never known what it was like to have my parents either never home, or significant issues. I'd been gifted with a relatively "normal" family. I'd always read/heard about families where affairs happen and everything is just so messed up. And I'd always been thankful that I came from one that was, though somewhat more distant than other ones, in one piece. That was why it was hard for me to handle the situation when a student at my high school killed himself. I remember it like the back of my hand. Coming into the school, the atmoshphere was heavy. I felt that something wasn't right. And when I learned what happened I was in shock. It wasn't until forth period that it really hit me how sad it was. I was reminded of the dead cousin I never knew, and the marks they found all over her body. I suppose it was soon after that I'd discovered TWLOHA. And it's definitely helped me personally. I had a friend who had marks on his arms, and I was recovering from my own. However, it was definitely only in the last couple of years that I realised the importance of TWLOHA. Love IS the movement. It sounds cheesey I know, but sometimes it's really hard to believe that there's anyone out there who even LIKES you. On occasion, I still struggle with my own inner battles, and it's easy to overlook the fact that those around you look out for you and really ARE concerned about you when they ask what's wrong. I don't claim to understand all the complicated reason behind others' stories, but at least now I'm open to them and don't criticise like I used to. I find that a major problem is the reluctance for people to talk about this. There's a lot of negative opinions about self injury and a lot of those around me seem to think that it's a stupid thing to do and it's really the person's own fault for being unable to cope with whatever life has handed them. Addiction is not something that is solely dependent on one's own choices. Drugs have different effects on different bodies and it's harder for some to stop than for others. I personally felt that self injury was also addictive. What those who experience the above really need is just someone to understand, to talk to, to relate to, and someone to stand up for them. Rescue is possible.Starting a UChapter looks especially attractive to me because of everyone's lack of knowledge of the ressources out there. I would much rather do something that reaches clsoe to home than, say, something overseas in poverty stricken areas (who are we to say what the community NEEDS? Especially if we weren't raised there and couldn't possibly understand life there?). To be honest, I don't really know when I started to care so much about TWLOHA. But it's definitely something I love a lot because of the fact it's something I chose, for myself, to pursue, not something by the family. I look my faded scars to remind myself of everyone out there who DOES love me, and that there a plenty of adolescents out there struggling to find someone that loves them and someone/thing to live for. Anyone want to join to Queen's Euchre Club with me? I didn't even know we had one! I randomly decided to see what clubs Queen's had and they have a euchre club! OMG! I haven't played in so long and am DEFINITELY so very deprived of it! T_T There's also a French one, but I'm not Francophone. And I can't access their page. SADFACE. Why the sudden search for clubs? Because I realise I have no social life. And interviewers always ask. DARN IT! Know what I really want to do? Start a TWLOHA UChapter at Queen's. Too bad I feel like I'm the only one who knows about TWLOHA. Darn. Also, conferences are in the US, which sucks. Anyone wanna help me? =PP

Question: If you weren't you, would you want to be friends with yourself? I was in my group interview for iCon today and that's what one of the interviewees asked at the end of the interview. I thought about it for a while and realised that I can't honestly say yes to that question. I'm a terrible person; I talk all over people, I never share anything I really think/feel, and I'm just mean. Not to mention I'm super anal about random things. I have a hard time opening up to people and I just don't really consider a lot of the people I interact with to be my friends. A lot of them I talk to because it's required of me as a human to have social encounters, but really, I just don't LIKE people in general. Maybe it's because I naturally don't make friends easily. Which is really weird, since I used to be great at making friends when I was in grade seven through to about ten-ish. Why are people so stupid? Why am I so stupid? I miss not being super stressed about molecules not working, and not being able to find a job. I miss bumming around at home aimlessly. But the thing I miss most right now is my sisters talking to each other. It's been almost 3 years now. =(

Not only can Facebook remove a job opp in a blink of an eye, it defintely shows how idiotic people are. I have a friend whose birthday was today. He was a part of my graduating class back in high school but many people don't know that he's actually a year younger than us (seeing how he's a freakin' genius, skipping a grade AND going into EngSci at UT and all). I went to wish him a happy birthday on Facebook and noticed all these "Happy Birthday! You're 20 now!" comments and it just made me think how the people who are wishiing others a happy birthday don't REALLY care that it's your birthday. Instead, they like to participate in wishing well, as to feel a part of that person's life. What the heck is the point if you actually don't really care? I don't reveal my birthday on my Facebook page. I used to in the past, and realised the above statements when one year I got birthday wishes from people I would hardly share a word with in the hallways of my high school. Anyone who's important enough knows my birthday anyway. And while I'm talking about Facebook, I'd like to share a little bit on my opinion on technology and its effect on human communication. Earlier today, I was talking to a housemate about keeping in touch when she heads off to an exchange next year. I said I would email her and I get the response, "Seriously? You're kidding right? I was thinking more on the lines of texting, Facebook and Twitter. Email is so 20th Century." I proceeded to give her a blank look of "wtf?" Maybe it's just me, but texting, Facebook, and Twitter aren't really... good for detailing someone about... well anything. Additionally, if you post something on the "wall", it can be read by EVERYONE. I don't personally enjoy sharing my life with all in the cyber world, thanks. Texting, for me, is really something for communicating short messages and things like that. Holding a legit conversation by text is THE strangest thing (though I do tend to do it when I'm bored and lack a computer). Twitter, though I don't have it, seems worse than Facebook. To me, being a "follower" is pretty much the next best thing to stalking. Why on earth do I care if you're eating pasta at 3 am (this is just random, I don't REALLY know anyone who's said this). The only reason why Twitter is acceptable to me is because I enjoy reading Twitters that have things that aren't constant updates of their lives. For example, my friend posts videos worthy of watching, and Adam Young has THE cutest random comments, which make me laugh (this alone makes up for all the idiots who "Tweet" about EVERYTHING). I like email, because it's more private and directed at one person (in some cases a couple more), NOT to some random person with a laptop sitting in a Starbucks with Wi-Fi. It's more personal and you can just write more stuff. So, this is my rant of the day. Do I sound like a technology hater yet?

This past weekend has been so unproductive. I just didn't feel motivated AT ALL to do anything. So, instead, I bummed around in bed and did as little as possible. I THINK I'm depressed about SOMETHING, but I don't really know what that something is -.-". Ulgh. I don't want to wake up, or rather, I'd prefer to just stay wrapped up in my covers and never see the light again. I contemplated cutting class today. Then I realised that I had to hand in my assignment, so I better go anyway. BAH HUMBUG. I hope this blahness goes away soon! I don't like feeling down in the dumps. Especially if I don't even really know why I'm in the dumps.

Hats off to everyone who made it. It's definitely one of those nights where I laughed a ridiculous amount and meant every single one. =) WOOT! So thanks a gagillion for that. DEFINITELY made me take my mind off school among other miscellaneous things. =) I have NOT done stupid things for the heck of it in a VERY long time. TEEHEE. Also, Alice in Wonderland? Great. Go watch it.
